Secret solar-geoengineering deployment
The claim
Claim: a covert global program disperses aerosols to cool Earth. Public proposals do not establish climate-scale deployment. This file tests the narrow allegation rather than treating secrecy, coincidence, or public controversy as evidence by themselves.
Chronology
Research and National Academies reviews prompted debate; proposed outdoor tests have been delayed or canceled. Chronology helps separate contemporaneous knowledge from later interpretation; sequence alone cannot establish a causal relationship.
Primary record and data
Grant records, publications, and aerosol observations document proposals and background particles, not sustained global injection. Original records establish what was measured or decided, while independent work is needed to test methods and institutional conclusions.
Independent scientific evidence
Satellites, lidar, aircraft, and temperatures detect volcanic aerosols; no matching secret climate forcing is established. Convergent observations and a plausible mechanism carry more weight than a single image, anecdote, or disputed quotation.
Alternative explanations
Coverage is imperfect and small tests hard to detect, but global deployment would require logistics and broad measurable signals. A strong alternative must explain the observations and remain open to disconfirmation; ordinary causes deserve the same scrutiny as extraordinary ones.
Limitations and uncertainty
Research is limited by small test scales, short observations, ecological uncertainties, and governance gaps; these limits do not establish climate-scale deployment. Uncertainty is stated explicitly rather than treated as support for the strongest version of a claim.
Calibrated verdict
Research is real and merits oversight; secret climate-scale deployment is not established. Documented research, emissions, negligence, or secrecy should not be conflated with a broader unsupported coordinated plot.
Testable evidence requirements
Specify material, altitude, mass, and location; seek chemical fingerprints, procurement, flight logs, and independent replication. A persuasive claim specifies what new evidence would change the assessment and allows independent replication, including negative results.
