Compatibility, installation & service

  • The 970 PRO uses MLC NAND, unlike the consumer TLC products often compared with it. Do not transfer 970 EVO/Plus firmware or endurance ratings. Check exact MPN and firmware availability; bootability is a host UEFI feature and not guaranteed by the SSD itself.
  • Verify that the 2280 M-key slot supports PCIe/NVMe and consult the system manual for shared lanes, board thermal-pad placement, and OS/UEFI NVMe boot support. Use the board heatsink only when its pad contacts the drive correctly; sustained workloads can cause temperature-based performance reduction. Back up before firmware maintenance and retain the exact model/firmware details for service because this model is discontinued in many regions.
  • Do not hot-plug an M.2 module unless the server/platform manual explicitly documents hot-plug support. Shut down cleanly, disconnect standby power when instructed, and use electrostatic-discharge precautions during handling.
  • Before replacing a boot drive, verify a recoverable backup, OS recovery media, encryption keys, firmware settings and the target system’s boot mode; physical fit does not establish compatibility.
