FIC VA-503+ (Socket 7 ATX board)
A sourced record of one model and its documented revision-specific behavior. Similar model numbers and later board spins are distinct products.
IDENTIFY THE PCB FIRST: Record silkscreen, assembly revision, product suffix and firmware string. Use revision-matched manuals and support lists; verify against the physical board.
Documented specifications
| Exact model / revision | FIC VA-503+ (Socket 7 ATX board) |
|---|---|
| Socket / processor | Socket 7 CPUs only where CPU voltage, bus and jumper chart support them. |
| Chipset / architecture | VIA MVP3 northbridge / VT82C596B southbridge per board documentation. |
| Memory | Three 168-pin DIMM and two 72-pin SIMM sockets; module types/mixed populations are manual-specific. |
| Form factor | ATX. |
| I/O / expansion | AGP, PCI, ISA, IDE, floppy, serial, parallel and USB as documented for VA-503+. |
| Firmware / boot compatibility | Award BIOS; CPU multiplier, voltage and bus settings are jumper-dependent. |
Compatibility and revision pitfalls
VA-503+ is not VA-503A or a similar FIC board. Match PCB revision/manual and voltage table; socket fit alone does not prove K6-2+/K6-III+ support.
Before substitution, check exact CPU/SoC support, minimum BIOS/bootloader, memory population, power connectors and chassis requirements. Matching socket or connector alone does not prove compatibility.
Repair and preservation notes
Record jumpers and memory population. Inspect ZIF socket, VRM, battery and capacitors; boot with conservative stock settings.
Record provenance, labels, firmware and test conditions. Photograph traces, jumpers and cable routing before repair or cleaning.
