MSI TPM 2.0 Module MS-4462

MSI discrete TPM 2.0 module identified by the MS-4462 part designation. MSI sells/supports TPM accessories for selected boards, but header layouts and host firmware support vary across motherboard families.

Specifications and compatibility limits

Catalog subcategorySecurity coprocessors
Exact model / part identifierMS-4462
TPM protocol / command interfaceTCG TPM 2.0 command interface over the documented LPC connection; TPM capabilities are exposed through motherboard firmware and OS TPM services.
Physical connector / transport20-1 pin LPC TPM module connector per the module listing. Verify the motherboard manual’s TPM header pin assignment and keying; do not use on a board with a different 12-1/14-1, SPI or proprietary header.
Host compatibility limitUse only with MSI motherboard models on MSI’s TPM support list that provide the matching header and BIOS support. A matching physical connector does not establish electrical or firmware compatibility with another manufacturer’s board.
Firmware / OS compatibility limitTPM 2.0 use is contingent on supported board BIOS/UEFI settings and the host operating system’s TPM stack. Module/BIOS update compatibility must be verified against MSI’s support list; do not cross-flash module variants.

Installation, firmware and archival notes

  • Before installation, record the module label/revision, host motherboard or server model, board revision, BIOS/UEFI version and TPM mode. Check the host’s own support list and installation diagram.
  • Use ESD precautions and the documented module orientation. A physically fitting header may have different LPC/SPI signaling, pinout or voltage; never hot-plug a motherboard TPM module.
  • TPM clear, replacement, firmware changes or mode changes can invalidate keys sealed to the previous TPM state. Back up recovery keys and follow the platform owner’s documented recovery procedure before service.
  • This is a TPM, not a general-purpose cryptographic coprocessor or HSM: do not assume it offers PCIe/USB/network connectivity or vendor-specific bulk crypto APIs.

Where a manufacturer no longer publishes a current manual, preserve the source revision and verify the hardware against the original host platform before use.

  3. TCG — TPM 2.0 Library SpecificationStandards reference for the TPM generation and command model; it does not certify this module’s electrical or platform compatibility.
