ASRock TPM2-S
ASRock TPM 2.0 security module using an LPC host interface. The exact board support caveat is material: this module must not be selected solely because a motherboard has an apparently similar TPM socket.
IDENTIFICATION: Confirm the printed part number, revision and host-board model. The connector, TPM generation, protocol transport and firmware support below are separate compatibility constraints.
Specifications and compatibility limits
| Catalog subcategory | Security coprocessors |
|---|---|
| Exact model / part identifier | TPM2-S |
| TPM protocol / command interface | TCG TPM 2.0 command interface over LPC (not SPI). TPM functions are mediated by compatible UEFI/BIOS and host software. |
| Physical connector / transport | 17-pin LPC interface as specified for TPM2-S. Confirm the ASRock board header’s pin assignment, mechanical keying and board revision in its own specification. |
| Host compatibility limit | ASRock TPM2-S compatible motherboards only. ASRock’s model documentation excludes some older Intel 8- and 9-series chipset platforms; verify the exact support page rather than extrapolating to all ASRock boards. |
| Firmware / OS compatibility limit | TPM 2.0 command implementation requires compatible board BIOS/UEFI and an OS TPM stack. The module’s TPM firmware is not a substitute for platform firmware support; observe ASRock’s documented firmware/security configuration and avoid cross-flashing. |
Installation, firmware and archival notes
- Before installation, record the module label/revision, host motherboard or server model, board revision, BIOS/UEFI version and TPM mode. Check the host’s own support list and installation diagram.
- Use ESD precautions and the documented module orientation. A physically fitting header may have different LPC/SPI signaling, pinout or voltage; never hot-plug a motherboard TPM module.
- TPM clear, replacement, firmware changes or mode changes can invalidate keys sealed to the previous TPM state. Back up recovery keys and follow the platform owner’s documented recovery procedure before service.
- This is a TPM, not a general-purpose cryptographic coprocessor or HSM: do not assume it offers PCIe/USB/network connectivity or vendor-specific bulk crypto APIs.
Where a manufacturer no longer publishes a current manual, preserve the source revision and verify the hardware against the original host platform before use.
