[ MODEL IDENTIFICATION // RM42-502 ]
SilverStone RM42-502 4U rackmount chassis
A 4U rack chassis with model-specific drive, PSU and expansion layouts. Match the enclosure revision, backplane and rail kit before installation.
MODEL NOTE: This record covers the RM42-502 only. Options, revision-dependent PSU support and installed bay modules may change fit; verify labels and the manufacturer manual before buying replacement parts.
Dimensions & fit specifications
| Rack units / external dimensions | 4U; 430 × 176 × 468 mm (W × H × D); bare chassis. Rack ears, rails, connectors and service loops increase installed depth. |
|---|---|
| Motherboard compatibility | SSI-EEB, SSI-CEB, E-ATX, ATX, Micro-ATX and Mini-ITX. |
| PSU / power compatibility | PS/2 ATX, Mini Redundant, or 2U Redundant (V2.0 or later). Product literature permits up to 442 mm PSU length when combined with the optical/5.25-inch bay arrangement; verify the exact internal layout and cable routing before selecting a long PSU. |
| Drive bays / backplane | Two external 5.25-inch positions (may be converted to four 2.5-inch or two 3.5-inch drive positions) plus one internal 2.5-inch position. No hot-swap backplane is specified for this arrangement. |
| Riser / PCIe | Seven full-height PCI/PCIe expansion slots. GPU length up to 337 mm with card retainer or 426 mm without; width up to 116 mm with GPU holder or 154 mm without. Confirm card thickness and retaining hardware. |
| Cooling / service clearances | Front two 120 mm fan positions (one included) and rear two 80 mm positions (one included); front supports up to a 240 mm radiator. CPU cooler height: 130 mm with GPU holder, 148 mm without. Preserve front intake and rear exhaust service space. |
Compatibility & service notes
The 5.25-inch bay conversion competes with optical-device use. The unusually long PSU allowance is arrangement-dependent, not a blanket fit promise; confirm the full unit depth plus modular plugs and cable bend in the manufacturer layout.
- Measure the complete installed depth: chassis, rack ears/slides, cable-management arm if fitted, connectors and cable bend radius.
- Maintain clear front intake and rear exhaust access; do not obstruct removable fan, drive, PSU or backplane service paths.
- Before hot-swap work, confirm the controller/backplane interface and follow the chassis manual’s power-down and ESD procedure.
