[ CABLE / ADAPTER RECORD // FTDI USB BRIDGE TO EIA/TIA-232 ]
RS-232 DE-9-to-DB-25 Straight-Through Cable
USB-A host, bridge chip and RS-232 transceiver to DE-9 DTE; output is bipolar RS-232, not TTL.
CLASSIFICATION: Serial and converter cables. Identify protocol, direction, pinout and exact cable revision before connection.
Interface and capability
| Standard / protocol | EIA/TIA-232 DE-9-to-DB-25 DTE/DCE |
|---|---|
| Endpoint / pinout | Straight-through modem mapping: DE-9 TXD pin 3 to DB-25 pin 2, RXD pin 2 to DB-25 pin 3, signal ground pin 5 to pin 7; handshake mappings depend on the complete cable. |
| Capability / limits | No universal baud or max reach is set by gender conversion; use endpoint transceiver and cable capacitance limits. |
| Certification / length | Standards define interface requirements, not every assembly’s performance. Certification, mode, current/power rating, direction and maximum length belong to the exact product/revision and complete channel; verify its manufacturer specification. Do not infer certification from connector shape or marketing terminology. |
Compatibility & handling
- This is a pin-mapped serial cable, not a null-modem cable or USB converter. Confirm DTE/DCE endpoint genders, TX/RX pins, and flow control on both manuals.
- Inspect connector keying, latch, contact condition, shielding, jacket and model/revision marking. Stop if contacts are bent, loose, scorched, corroded or mismatched.
- Route without tension or sharp bends; follow product bend-radius, strain-relief, current and environmental limits. Test at the intended protocol and mode—physical fit is not a compatibility test.
